Controversy[ edit ] Anthropologist Helen Fisher in What happens in the dating world can reflect larger currents within popular culture. For example, when the book The Rules appeared, it touched off media controversy about how men and women should relate to each other, with different positions taken by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and British writer Kira Cochrane of The Guardian. Sara McCorquodale suggests that women meeting strangers on dates meet initially in busy public places, share details of upcoming dates with friends or family so they know where they’ll be and who they’ll be with, avoid revealing one’s surname or address, and conducting searches on them on the Internet prior to the date. Don’t leave drinks unattended; have an exit plan if things go badly; and ask a friend to call you on your cell phone an hour into the date to ask how it’s going. If you explain beautifully, a woman does not look to see whether you are handsome or not — but listens more, so you can win her heart. That is why I advise our boys to read stories and watch movies more and to learn more beautiful phrases to tell girls. The Internet is shaping the way new generations date. Facebook , Skype , Whatsapp , and other applications have made remote connections possible. Online dating tools are an alternate way to meet potential dates.

For example, I had four students in each row and four different prompts printed and ready to hand out. The bottom line is — students should become VERY familiar with the first prompt they are given. If they have immediate ideas for evidence that can be used to support their thesis, I encourage them to jot those ideas down below to help out the next guy, but they are only responsible for the thesis.
Round Two 5 minutes — Students pass their prompt to the person behind them so that everyone gets a NEW prompt for this round. A Quick Way to Expand Your Professional Contacts Networking can be one of the most powerful and productive activities an individual can do to launch and manage their career. In the workplace today, we need to be known to others as well as ensure that others are aware of how we might be a resource for them. Whether student, young careerist, or seasoned professional, having a network of people you can tap into for information, advice and opportunities, while sharing your own, is paramount.
Over the past five years, speed networking has emerged as a variation of traditional business networking activities for meeting people. Speed networking is a structured and fast paced networking event allowing participants to interact with others, typically in a series of brief one-on-one information exchanges.
Speed networking takes its cue from speed dating, an event where individuals are allowed a short amount of time to meet a number of prospective dates, one at a time, and then choose who they would like to provide their contact information. Where interest is mutual, the contact leads to a date. Speed networking is the business version of speed dating. However, in speed networking events, the participants readily share contact information with each other and decide themselves who they will follow up with.
This type of event can provide exposure to a lot of people in a short amount of time. It is a way to let others know who you are and what you are looking for, whether new customers or clients, business or sales leads, or a new job or internship. Colleges and universities may offer speed networking events where employers and alumni are invited to meet students looking for internships, jobs, or mentors, or where alumni can meet each other.

Really simple French personal questions, a fun way to practise by sitting kids in a row facing another row of them and they ask the questions for a minute, each time a whistle blows they move down a seat and fill in each time the information in the grid.
Sunday, January 12, Introducing Logarithms with Foldables, War, Bingo, and Speed Dating Missing three days of school due to the snow and ice really threw off my plans for Algebra 2. I had hoped to get through logarithms before Christmas Break. We did get started with logarithms. But, I had to spend the first four days of the new semester finishing up our logarithm unit. This might have had something to do with the fact that I chose to introduce them on a day that most students thought we should have been out of school.
Many of the schools around us had already closed due to the impending arrival of Cleon. But, we were in school. And, my students wanted to have nothing to do with learning something new. Introduction to Logarithm Notes This introduction to logarithms is basically a compilation of a lot of ideas I found on the Internet. Another memory device was stolen from Zook Tutoring.
I made a booklet foldable for my students to introduce logarithms. I wanted to emphasize both converting between exponential and logarithmic form and evaluating basic logarithms.

History[ edit ] Lock picking has been around for as long as locks have, and recreational lock picking has been as well. However, as an organized hobby, lock picking is a relatively recent phenomenon. The term locksport was adopted by lock picking enthusiasts as a way of differentiating what they do from locksmiths, as well as from those who might choose to pick locks for nefarious purposes.
As of early , the term had been suggested, but not widely adopted. Locksport International is now under the direction of Doug Farre.

In classroom discussions, I’m sure we have all been faced with both a sea of blank stares with no response as well as out-of-order chaos. Below are some of the activities you can use to strike a good balance, keep control, engage students, and break away from the traditional whole-class discussion. These activities allow for more reflection, interaction, and thoughtful expression.
The silent discussion method allows everyone even your most reluctant students to share their ideas. It gives time for students to reflect on their own thoughts as well as learn about the perspective of others before sharing out loud. Write them or project them on the board. When they are done, they get up, circulate the room at their own pace, and find an available seat with a new discussion question.
When you are done, you can have a whole-class open discussion on all of the topics, or put students into small groups to discuss. If you want to read about how I use this method in more detail you can read this blog post I wrote: I use them as a weekly bell-ringer to spark a short discussion in small groups at the start of class. Although discussions are not always used to start a class, I find it a great way to warm up student brains for the lesson ahead.
Gallery discussions are an effective way to get students out of their seats and collaborating in small groups. All you need are a few pieces of chart paper, some markers, and discussion prompts. Hang them around the classroom in stations.
